Last Sunrise: Fernando Lendez in his English language debut, the sequel to Maia Reficco Movies Counter

Fernando Lindes’ career has recently become a whirlwind.

While promoting another Prime Video project, the Spanish model-turned-actor met producers Lena Rocklin and Jennifer Gibgot, who urged him to audition for their next film.

“They started talking to me, and they were like, ‘You have to make this choice!’ It all happened so fast,” Lindis says. Hollywood Reporter On zoom.

This selection was for Romance in Prime Video The last sunrisebased on author Anna Todd’s 2025 bestselling book, which was released on Wednesday. Set in Mallorca, Spain, the film follows Aurea “Ray” Pera (Maia Revico), a 22-year-old suffering from chronic illnesses, including tuberous sclerosis and epilepsy. While accompanying her mother (Eva Longoria) on a summer business trip, she meets a charming local named Julian (Lendys). The two embark on a summer romance, though Ray’s undisclosed health struggles further complicate their blossoming relationship.

The role marks Lindez’s English-language debut after a string of high-profile Spanish projects, including the recent romantic drama Tell me calmly. Successfully crossing over into English-speaking roles has long been a goal for the up-and-coming actor.

“Making your American debut is the dream of any actor aspiring to Hollywood,” Lindis says. “It’s where the industry reaches its highest levels.”

Lindis, 26, began acting at the age of 16, attending theater school before landing a breakout role in a TV series. Escam Spainstarring alongside the future My mistake Nicole Wallace and Gabriel Guevara lead. “We all started on that show,” he recalls.

Lindes portrayed Alejandro across 30 episodes of the teen drama until it ended in 2020. He later joined the main cast of the hit Netflix film. elite As Joel, and in 2023, he starred in the Spanish thriller series Scandal, story of obsession.

While building his acting resume, Lindes had already established a successful modeling career.

He says: “I started modeling when I was seventeen years old, and I never imagined that I would enter the world of fashion.” THR. “When I was young, I was very shy and never wanted to have my pictures taken. It all happened because a friend posted a photo of me on social media, and a scout from my agency saw it and thought, ‘This guy could be a model.’

Soon, Lindy’s was traveling the world, walking the runways of Milan, Paris, and New York. “It all happened so fast. It was crazy,” he says.

Despite his success in the fashion world, Lindis says his creative passion has always been acting, “being in front of the camera and performing.”

“I get goosebumps when I act,” he says, describing a feeling of accomplishment that is different from modeling.

Sure enough, goosebumps arose when Lindys joined the group The last sunrise. “When I came to the set on the first day, and saw this huge production, I had never experienced anything like this before. So for me, I felt very lucky to work on this kind of project,” he says. THR.

in The last sunriseLyndis takes on the role of the romantic hero, a departure from his previous, darker characters. “This is the most romantic film I’ve made so far. In other projects I’ve been involved in, there’s often been something dark in my characters,” he points out, adding that Julian avoids the “bad guy” archetype to show a vulnerable young man committed to his family and Majorcan roots.

Although the acting technique was the same, Lindys points out that the language barrier needed some adjustment.

“The beginning was very difficult because my English wasn’t perfect. I have a very strong Spanish accent,” Lindes admits. “I have a teacher who helped me with my enunciation and speak slowly – because as a Spanish person, I like to speak quickly! But the director and Maya (Rivico) – who is Argentinian and speaks fluent English – helped me a lot with the language.”

While Revico and Lindes eventually formed a strong bond, their initial meeting was anything but. The actress was candid about not clicking right away, a story that Lindis now laughs off.

“We are very similar in many things, and at first, when I first met her, I was very shy, but with everyone. We spent about two or three days approaching each other cautiously,” he says. “But then we had a beautiful journey, and I think we made a really good team. I learned a lot from her. She’s a nice person, an actress, and she was very professional. I really admire her.”

Taking on the lead role of Prime Video’s latest romance was a natural fit for Lindez, who describes herself as a romantic at heart and a fan of the genre.

On the surface, the film seems like a typical summer romance mixed with youth drama, but it also chronicles families facing chronic illness, self-discovery, and the pressure of expectations. The story is deeply personal for author Anna Todd, who was inspired by her son’s health journey.

“One of the things that really attracted me to this project was the emotional aspect of the story. When I read the script, I thought it was very well written, and I’m also a huge fan of romance. I’m a very romantic person. I love romance. But I also think this movie goes much deeper than that. It’s about family (and) personal growth. It’s a different kind of romance. It also taught me a lot about life,” he says.

He adds about his role: “He is a mature man with his responsibilities (and) mature problems. He is someone who is trying to understand himself and what he really wants. He has this confidence on the outside, but I think there is much more to it than that. There is a vulnerable man. He is also very protective with his family, his island (and) his people. He is a man who loves his culture.”

For most of the film, Julian falls in love with Ray and is unaware of her illness or her family ties. As Julian and his father struggle to save the historic local docks from a hotel development project — led by Ray’s mother, Isolde (Eva Longoria) — he eventually learns Ray’s secrets. When she finally shared how serious her illness was, he chose to stay by her side.

“It’s a very hard thing to tell someone. Of course, you wouldn’t tell me that secret the first day we met. He just wants to help her and protect her and show her that he loves her just the way she is,” Lindis says. “I think what Julian sees in Ray, he sees something of himself in her. I think he sees that weak part in her. From the first day they met, there was something you couldn’t explain, and they felt loved in a very natural way. When he realized that she was sick and that she was carrying this disease, he did what he knew to do: protect her with everything he loved. “It’s just preventive.”

The climax of the film sees Ray undergo surgery to remove tumors, and wake up with her memory affected. As it is revealed her memories slowly return, whether she remembers Julian and how much remains an open question.

Amazon MGM is reportedly eyeing Last sunrise A sequel, with Todd planning to write a book trilogy. Lindis says he hasn’t heard anything official about a second film, but he’s ready to return: “I’d like Julian to show her why he loves her. He has to make her fall in love with him again.”

For now, Lindis is focused on continuing to grow as an actor, and keeping his options open beyond romance.

“I just want to keep learning,” he says. “I’m still taking acting lessons. I think it’s very important to keep learning about this industry. I’d like to do different types of films. I love action and fantasy – I’m open to everything. I just want to keep growing. That’s the most important thing to me.”
