Season two of Saturday Night Live UK It’s almost upon us.
The next installment is scheduled to debut on Saturday, September 9 with host Jeff Goldblum and musical guest CMAT.
It follows the highly acclaimed first season SNL UK (A summary of reviews can be found here), which aired from March onwards earlier this year. The series’ regular cast were all relatively unknown comedians and social media stars, such as Hamed Animation, Ayoade Bamboy, Larry Dean, Celeste Dring, George Fouracre, Annabelle Marlowe, Al Nash, Jack Shipp, and Emma Sidi. Weekend Update presenters Ania Magliano and Paddy Young have been a hit, both having sold-out shows for their solo comedy shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival just last month.
Joining the cast this season is Freddie Meredith, who most recently appeared in the quirky female-centric comedy directed by Cat Sadler. Such brave girls On BBC.
The opening host of the first season was American star W SNL Hall of Famer Tina Fey, who led the show to a strong start. Hollywood ReporterA review noted: “Good cast, choppy writing — like the mothership,” about the London spin-off of Lorne Michaels’ long-running sketch show on NBC. That first episode on Sky (available on Peacock in the US) was watched by more than 220,000 people in Britain, with Jamie Dornan, Riz Ahmed, Jack Whitehall, Nicola Coughlan, Amy Lou Wood, Hannah Waddingham and Ncuti Gatwa booking hosting slots for the first season.
Some of the group’s best sketches throughout the season included a parody skin care ad in which women look So Young people whose partners were arrested for being pedophiles, a Traitors A spoof in which a giant crab at the round table goes undetected in a clever social satire, and “The Prince Andrew Plan”, in which MI5 staff assert that all the royal family mayhem over the past three decades was only to make King Charles look cool by comparison.
Season two will open with Goldblum and Irish singer-songwriter CMAT, before comedian Jimmy Demetriou takes over the next hosting gig on September 19, with rock band Royal Blood as his musical guest. Demetriou is known for his roles in… Flea bag, Stath offers apartments and Barbie.
The following week, History of the chicken shop Broadcaster Amelia Demoldenberg will take the reins alongside English singer Rachel Chinnuri. Demoldenberg SNL UK The appearance comes on the heels of her confirmation that she will attend History of the chicken shop To its end after 12 years.
On the production front, Laura Claxton has been promoted to SNL UK Co-lead writer, joining current lead writer Jono Johnson. Liz Clare returns as director. Heather McVean joins as costume designer and Sinead Oldnall heads up the UK talent team as director of on-screen talent. Lorne Michaels serves as executive producer on the show, and James Longman is lead producer.
