The distributor revealed on Thursday that it will be holding large-scale screenings of the film He hopes on September 7 in 175 premium locations before a wide release on September 9. The one-night event, with showtimes at 6:30 p.m., spans six formats — Dolby Cinema, 4DX, ScreenX, Barco HDR, D-Box and Dolby Atmos — in theaters in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Dallas and elsewhere. The launch strategy is reminiscent of Neon’s launch last year of Osgood Perkins Monkeywhich used advanced screenings in a premium format to build word of mouth en route to the film’s strong $40 million theatrical performance.

Set in the fictional border town of Hope Harbor near the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), the film follows police chief Beom-seok (Hwang Jung-min) and his bad-ass deputy, Song-ae (Squid game‘s Hoyeon) as they frantically chase a huge mysterious creature that has begun rampaging through their village. A group of local hunters, led by the charismatic Song Ki (Zu In Sung), join the hunt and follow the beast to a nearby forest – only to become its prey. What begins as a series of understandable misjudgments soon turns into a tragedy on a cosmic scale.
