Disney+ has set a November 4 premiere date Married Empressits lavish Korean romantic fantasy series starring Shin Min A, Jo Ji Hoon, Lee Jong Suk, and Lee Se Young.
The 10-part series will launch with four episodes, followed by two new parts every Wednesday until the finale on November 25. Disney also revealed a new trailer and key character art for the show on Tuesday. The livestream premiere will be followed by a high-profile premiere in South Korea at the Busan International Film Festival in early October.
Based on the hit Naver Webtoon song of the same name, Married Empress Shin plays Naver, the beloved Empress of the Eastern Kingdom, whose marriage begins to unravel when her husband, Emperor Sofisho (Joe), falls in love with runaway slave Rasta (Lee Si-young). When Soviesh seeks to cast Navier aside, she agrees to his demands on one condition: that she be allowed to marry rival Crown Prince Heinry (Lee Jong-suk) of the Western Kingdom.
Disney says the source webtoon has now amassed nearly 3 billion views globally. The project is one of the largest Korean projects undertaken by broadcasters to date. Disney described this in its Asia-Pacific content showcase last year Married Empress As the most expensive Korean drama ever produced. The series was filmed on European locations and on elaborately constructed palace sets.
Cho Soo-won, whose credits include I can hear your voice, Pinocchio and Still 17directed from scripts by Yeoh Jina and Hyun Chung-yeol.
Before it debuted online, Married Empress You will get the full festival splash. Three episodes of the series, with a combined duration of 151 minutes, will make their world premiere in the On Screen section, the Busan International Film Festival announced on Tuesday. The sidebar, which was introduced in 2021 to screen new high-profile series on the big screen before their release, will also contain Netflix titles Dead end job and Blue road.
The 31st Busan International Film Festival will be held from October 6 to 15.
