Today is the day – and maybe Liam and Noel Gallagher will live forever?
Cementing their place in the pop culture firmament, Manchester’s cockiest duo walked the Venice Film Festival’s historic red carpet on Saturday night for the world premiere of their film. Oasis: Don’t look back in angerDisney’s long-awaited behind-the-scenes documentary chronicling last year’s hugely successful reunion tour.
Created by Peaky Blinders mastermind steven knight, Oasis: Don’t look back in anger The film combines a concert film, a behind-the-scenes documentary, and an unusually intimate portrait of the Gallagher brothers’ famously volatile relationship. The filmmakers followed Oasis across 12 concerts on three continents during their Live ’25 tour, capturing previously unseen rehearsals, backstage and onstage footage.
The first show was, appropriately, more like a concert at Oasis Stadium than a dreary festival premiere. There were chants of “Oasis! Oasis!” As the Gallaghers entered the Sala Grande theatre. Before the film was shown, a fan in the balcony unveiled a banner reading “Oasis Live 25 Buenos Aires” and chanted “Come on, Oasis!”
In response to a question from the gallery, Liam exclaimed: “Venice is a beautiful place!” Before he sat with his brother to watch the movie.
The Gallagher brothers were absent from the film’s morning press conference, but their presence inside the Sala Grande undoubtedly gave an extra charge of anticipation for the film – which includes their first joint interview in more than two decades.
When the lights came on two hours after the doc was shown, the audience cheered and erupted in an 8-minute standing ovation. The audience even sang along loudly to the band’s “Champagne Supernova” at the end. It was not lost on the audience that the brother’s reconciliation paved the way for any of this to happen, and when they discussed the matter on screen, the audience applauded at those moments as well.
During the applause, Liam Gallagher initially looked like he wanted to get out of the venue – and indicated he wanted to stop having a drink – until a member of the filmmaking team convinced him to stay. He also made the most of his time by running down the stairs from the top floor to come and sign autographs for the adoring fans. After working with the crowd for a while, Liam took Noel’s hand and they raised their arms together to huge cheers and applause.

The documentary was directed by British directors Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace, already famous for their indie rock documentaries. Their previous music documentaries include 2012’s LCD Soundsystem Shut up and play the hits and Meet me in the bathroom from 2022, which revisits the early 2000s New York scene that gave rise to the Strokes, Yes Yes Yes, Interpol, LCD Soundsystem and others. They also previously collaborated on the documentary Blur There is no distance left to run.
After the gun, you will give Disney Oasis: Don’t look back in anger A limited theatrical run, with the film opening in select Imax and US theaters on September 11. It will then stream later this year on Hulu in the US and exclusively on Disney+ internationally.
The 83rd Venice Film Festival runs until September 12, when the competition jury led by Maggie Gyllenhaal will hand out the festival’s top prizes at the closing night’s awards ceremony. but Oasis: Don’t look back in anger It is being offered at the Open Rifle Championship – out of competition and therefore not in contention for the Golden Lion.
