Plow speedcurrently in post-production, marks Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Mamet’s return to directing. Adapted from his popular Broadway play, the film stars Anthony Mackie, Ben Mendelsohn, Sharon Stone, Emily Alyn Lind, Chris Bauer, and Rebecca Pidgeon.
As we told you earlier this year, the new film will differ from the play somewhat and will be set at the fictional American Prestige Studios, where upstart executive Bob Grant (Mackey) is appointed head of production. Grant is emotionally and philosophically ill-suited for the job of supervising Schlock’s production but is aided or hampered by the studio’s time servant, Charlie Fox (Mendelsohn); Office temp Karen (Lind); and crazy movie star Gemma Spade (Stone).
The film, which also had AI help on its journey through production, is produced by Tyler Payne, along with Douglas Riggs (Steak & Rosé), Jiarui Guo (Incandescent Productions), Vince Jolivet, and Filmopoly’s Richie Hill. International sales are being managed by Solution Entertainment Group, while Milestone Studios will oversee U.S. sales.
Separately, Alliance Cinema’s Janet P. Milio and her producing partner Iris Ramos have acquired exclusive global adaptation rights to the Brazilian novel. Diary of a strange girlWritten by Thalita Rebukas and published by HarperCollins Brazil.
The plan is to develop the YA novel as a television series for global audiences with Alliance now deciding on the best creative team to take it forward.
The book follows Carol, a 13-year-old girl who feels like an “outsider” and navigates the ups and downs of pre-adolescence. The story revolves around first crushes, school pressures, friendship struggles, parental separation, and loneliness.
