Exclusive: Audible Harry Potter: The Complete Audio Editions It has sold more than 5 million copies. Amazon-owned Audible began releasing new versions of the JK Rowling series last November, with a great cast voicing the characters and cutting-edge spatial audio.
All seven full-length editions of the books have now been released and Audible told Deadline that it has surpassed the 5 million sales mark. The news arrives on September 1, which coincidentally is “Back to Hogwarts Day,” the fictional date on which students return to classes at the wizarding school of the same name.
The sale number includes people who purchased the books individually, as well as Audible members who used credits on them because the books are not part of the free catalog that comes with an Audible subscription.
To put the sales number in context, there are Audible’s bestsellers Hail Mary projectwhich was one of Hollywood’s major films, achieved great sales and sold 3 million copies in five years, while Harry Potter: The Complete Audio Editions He made 5 million in nine months.
Interest in all things Harry Potter remains high ahead of the HBO series’ launch. Previous collections of audiobooks, narrated by Jim Dale and Stephen Fry respectively, have proven incredibly popular. When launching the first new audiobooks, Audible said it hoped to surpass the 1.8 billion listening hours achieved by the Dale and Fry releases.
The cast of the full audio versions includes Cush Jumbo as the Narrator, Hugh Laurie as Albus Dumbledore, Matthew Macfadyen as Lord Voldemort, Riz Ahmed as Professor Snape, Kit Harington as Professor Lockhart, and Keira Knightley as Professor Umbridge.
Breakout stars Frankie Treadway, Max Lister, and Arabella Stanton play Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger, respectively, in audiobooks one, two, and three. Jackson Knopf, Rhys Mulligan, and Nina Parker Francis take on the roles of the trio (Harry, Ron, and Hermione, respectively) starting in the fourth audiobook and continuing through the seventh audiobook.
The latest seven-book installment totals 130 hours in total, and 200 actors have played more than 500 characters across the series.
